Headteacher's Welcome
Welcome to Abbeys Primary School.
My name is Jess Fellowes and I am incredibly proud to be the Headteacher of Abbeys. Our school is a very special place, and what makes it special is our people – our wonderful children, dedicated staff and supportive families who work together as a community.
At Abbeys, our motto is Aim, Aspire, Achieve. We want every child to believe that they can achieve great things, whatever their starting point or circumstances. We have high expectations for every child and are committed to providing the opportunities, support and encouragement they need to succeed.
One of our greatest strengths is the exceptionally positive behaviour of our pupils. Our children are kind, respectful and caring towards one another and take great pride in being part of Abbeys. We expect children to behave well, but more importantly, we teach them why respect, kindness, responsibility and perseverance matter. This creates a calm, purposeful environment where children feel safe and are ready to learn.
Wellbeing is at the heart of our school. We want children to be happy, confident and emotionally secure, as we know that children learn best when they feel safe, valued and understood. We place a strong emphasis on pastoral support, relationships, mental health and the development of the whole child. We want our children to leave Abbeys not only with strong academic foundations, but with the resilience, independence and confidence they need for the future.
We are also incredibly proud of our strong sense of community and belonging. Abbeys is more than a school – it is a community where children are known, valued and encouraged to be themselves. We celebrate our differences, learn from one another and make sure that everyone has a place and a voice. Our families are an important part of this community, and we value the relationships we build with them.
Inclusion is at the heart of everything we do. Every child is unique and brings their own strengths, talents and experiences to our school. We are committed to removing barriers to learning and ensuring that every child can participate, feel that they belong and achieve their potential. We believe that inclusion is not something separate from school life; it is woven through everything we do.
We are particularly ambitious for our most disadvantaged pupils. We work hard to understand individual barriers and provide the right support, opportunities and experiences to ensure that disadvantage does not become a barrier to success. We will never accept a child's circumstances as a reason for lowering our expectations of them.
As a school, we are always looking to improve. We celebrate our successes, but we are never complacent. We continually reflect on what we do, listen to our children and families and look for ways to make Abbeys even better. Our commitment to improvement is driven by one simple question: what will make the biggest difference to our children?
I also believe strongly in an open-door approach. If you have a question, concern, idea or simply want to talk to us, please come and speak to us. Honest, respectful communication between home and school makes a real difference to children. We may not always get everything right, but we will always listen, work with you and do what we can to find a positive way forward.
I feel enormously privileged to lead Abbeys and to work alongside such committed staff, wonderful children and supportive families. Together, we will continue to Aim, Aspire and Achieve, ensuring that every child leaves Abbeys believing in themselves, proud of who they are and ready for their next adventure.
