Welcome back after a lovely week off. I hope that you have enjoyed time at home together and are ready for the half term ahead. This half term is the busiest of the year with nativities, carols and of course lots of learning. Well done to all the children that took part in the TTROCKSTARS competition over half term. Well done to Kuukua who always achieves highly, and a special mentioned to Ramez and Elwin who achieved so well this time around!

Please come along to our coffee morning – it is the best opportunity to ask questions and seek support from professionals on all sorts of issues .From toileting, sleeping and housing to benefits, EHCPS and diagnosis.

Last time it was great and so many parents/ carers spoke about their worries and were signposted in the right direction.

Mrs Louis-White and I will both be there to answer questions as well and if that wasn't enough to persuade you to come along... there will, of course, be treats!

Lockdown Simulation – A Message to Parents and Carers

At Abbeys Primary School, the safety and wellbeing of our children and staff is always our highest priority.

As part of our ongoing safeguarding procedures, we periodically carry out lockdown drills to ensure that everyone in school understands what to do should we ever need to secure the building in response to a potential external threat or emergency situation.

Although I hope that we will never need to put these procedures into practice, it is important that children and staff are familiar with the routines and know how to respond calmly and safely. Practising these procedures helps us to be prepared, just as we practise fire drills.

I would like to take this opportunity to say a huge well done to all of our children. They approached the drill with incredible understanding and maturity, listened carefully to instructions and followed the guidance given by staff. I am so proud of the way they conducted themselves.

I understand that these types of exercises may raise questions, but please be reassured that they are a normal and important part of keeping our school community safe.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support. We are incredibly proud of our children and the way they look after themselves and one another.

AIM, ASPIRE, ACHIEVE!

Well done to our year 5/6 footballers who have represented the school over the past few weeks. Although not all the games went our way, you displayed resilience, determination and team work- which is better than winning!

The second part of Autumn term is very busy. We do our best to send numerous reminders to Parents/ Carers, but frequently we take calls from parents/ carers not knowing about events. It is important that you note the dates below and that you check the Facebook page and school calendar.

You will have received your child's newsletter for the term ahead. This term we are also introducing a new spelling programme across the school, and we have lots of exciting topics to learn about!

Frenchie is 11!

Happy birthday Frenchie! She brings so much joy to our school community!

What a busy and exciting time they have had in Tintern and Turvey this week! They have been learning all about Bonfire Night and exploring the colours, sounds and celebrations associated with fireworks. In maths, they have been developing subitising skills, learning to recognise groups of up to 5 without needing to count each object. They have also been giving lots of high-fives to show five on their hands and practising recognising five in different ways!

They have been working hard to strengthen their fine motor skills through a range of fun activities, helping them to become more confident with their pencil control and mark-making. In phonics, they have been learning new sounds and recapping the sounds they already know, practising how to recognise and use them.

They have also enjoyed exploring the story 'Room on the Broom', joining in with the story, meeting the characters and discovering all the exciting things that happen along the way. They have had a wonderful time learning, exploring and developing new skills together!

]

Whitby class have enjoyed their first lesson of RE this year. We have explored what the word belonging means and thought about the places that we belong like in our families and our class.

In year 1/2 Maths, the children have been consolidating their knowledge of exchanging when subtracting with amounts that cross ten. Miss Bemrose's maths group has also been displaying excellent collaboration skills this week, working out mathematical problems together.

Melrose have been learning about the celebration of Diwali and how Hindus mark this occasion. They had a go at creating rangoli patterns using lolly-pop sticks.

Year 3 and 4 have been enjoying  'We Jam' music sessions. They worked in small groups using iPads, following the musical algorithm to create a piece of group music. The children loved it!!

Year 5 and 6 have been challenging themselves and writing non-chronological reports and instruction texts- look at their beautiful work! Well done children!

At this time of year, Forest school is looking particularly colourful! The children have continued with their firework drawings and Mrs Dunnett's little robin is back for Winter!

Well done to Ivy Jones for producing this wonderful piece for

Mrs Dunnett- all about Forest school! It's lovely!

A big shout-out to Ms Chamberlain for her amazing handovers, patience and support of our child.

We massively appreciate everything she does!

Cerys doesn't like sweets or chocolates and so, didn't want to go trick or treating herself but she did want to dress up and answer the door to other children to give them some sweets.

She worked really hard decorating some pumpkins and was delighted answering the door to her first trick or treater and every child thereafter.

It was wonderful to see how happy it made Cerys, doing something kind for others.

Mummy and Daddy are so proud of you.

Well done Cerys! Kindness is one of our most important values!

POLITE REMINDER

We need to lock the gates at the end of the school day so that clubs can begin on the field. This is often delayed by children on the trim trail and parents/ carers chatting.
Please vacate the playground as quickly as possible at the end of the day.

Thanks

Have a lovely weekend everyone!

If you are celebrating Diwali this weekend have a wonderful time.
