The weeks are flying by and we are fast approaching half term. The next few weeks are set to be really busy. If you read just one part of my newsletter, please can it be the calendar of events! Add these important dates to your diary- so that you and your children don't miss out!

We'd like to welcome two new teaching assistants to the team. Charlotte Tyas started a few weeks ago and is based in Ks2 and Paige Gregory started this week and is based in the Hive/ with Ks1 children- no relation to Miss Gregory our site manager! Welcome to Abbeys- we hope you enjoy working here!

Mrs Yarnold will be joining us over the coming weeks as a part-time cover teacher. She will be in Melrose and Marham classes for most of the time. But we may use her elsewhere aswell. Mrs Yarnold is a very expereinced teacher who has worked with me for many years. Welcome to Abbeys!

I cannot wait to see all the Scarecrows that are currently being created. Please take them into class from Monday 19th October and no later than the 21st of October. They will be placed in Forest school for all to see and the Mayor of Milton Keynes is coming to judge them! Paul Trendall has been the Mayor since May. We look forward to meeting him.

Next Friday is our Harvest festival! Historically, we receive a huge amount of donations and hopefully we will this year too!

All donations go to St Mary's church to be redistributed into the local community.

'For the past 12 months Freya has been experiencing bad headaches. We've been to see the GP so many times, who kept saying it was migraines. Our appointments went from monthly, to weekly, to me taking her to urgent care. All kept telling me the same thing. Two months ago the vomiting began, 3 weeks ago she also complained of double vision. I noticed a change in her eyes and took her to the opticians the next day. We were sent to A&E, where we sat for 7 hours.  They did scans and found a tumour. Within 24hrs the hospital sent us to Oxford Children's Hospital. I met with the surgeons, who told me if they didn't operate immediately, Freya would die, because the tumour was massive and pressing on the cerebellum and brain stem. They could only safely remove 70% of the tumour. The results of this tumour is a Medulloblastoma, a type of brain cancer. Two days later, Freya was rushed into surgery again to install an external drain to help reduce the pressure in her brain. This week they took her for another surgery to remove that drain and install a shunt. Freya has barely spoken since the surgery and now has a wheelchair due to weakness on the right side of her body and fatigue. We head to London on Wednesday to discuss her radiotherapy and have her mask made ahead of her starting treatment. We will then go back to London, which is where we'll stay for 6 weeks. Once we're home, we'll have to travel to and from Oxford children's hospital for her chemotherapy. Freya will be shaving off the remaining hair ahead of having a wig made. I have created this fundraiser to try to help us with some of the costs and to treat Freya to something nice. (whatever she chooses) I know she'd love a Switch 2 and could do with a new TV. Being as I am no longer able to work in my role as an early year's practitioner, this is going to have a big financial impact on our family as well as all of the emotional impact which we've already had to deal with. It's been tough and is going to get tougher while Freya is in treatment for the next year. Your support would mean the world to our family.

We love you Freya.

Thank you for reading.

Children in Tintern and Turvey have been practising accurate counting in Maths. To help with this, we made a bowling alley outside and counted how many pins were knocked down and how many were still standing.

After learning all about patterns found in nature and recreating images using natural objects, the children in KS1 have completed their art projects with their final piece of artwork. They did some amazing leaf print paintings!

Year 1/2 have been looking at shapes, jumps and rolls in their gymnastics lessons.

Whitby class have put this into practise by jumping off apparatus and holding shapes in different ways on the apparatus.

Melrose have learnt about how Egyptians used a Shaduf.

They had a go at making their own model versions too.

Beaulieu have been enjoying forest school. They competed in a competition to make the biggest tower out of wood! They were very competitive!

Well done Beaulieu!

Beautiful artwork by Harry K  produced during art club!

A little shout-out to my boys, Zi, Ayden, Ilyan and Khayal

??

Just wanted to say how ridiculously proud I am of you all. You’re kind, caring, thoughtful, funny and, most of the time, actually quite lovely to have around!

I love that you’re growing up and starting to notice things for yourselves. The fact that you see when I need a hand and just get on with helping without being asked means more to me than you probably realise. You don’t have to, and I certainly don’t expect you to, but it makes me very proud to see the thoughtful young men you’re becoming.

I love you all so much, even when you’re driving me completely mad!

??

Keep being you, boys. I’m very lucky to have you.

Love Mum x

'I’d like to shout out Fin for his amazing progress in phonics. He has been working so hard & it’s been wonderful to see his confidence grow when recognising & reading his sounds. Very proud of him!' Miss Christophi

'Shout-out  to Cassie for being only one skill away from intermediate level in gymnastics already close to joining her 13 year old sister at just age 7, not only is she excelling herself but this week when a new gymnast came to class and was nervous, Cassie stepped in and became her buddy helping to calm her and help her learn, showing kindness that we are sure she has learnt at Abbeys we are so proud of her!' Love Mum

I would like to give a shout-out to the play leaders, they have been fantastic with the children in Tintern and Turvey and have supported me so well with walking the children back after lunch. Your help is very much appreciated. Thank you play leaders!

Mrs Rashid

'Shout out to Scarlett Eve. She has been told she is well ahead by her violin teacher and will soon be starting Grade 1, taking her exams and performing in front of an audience, it’s a great achievement for her' Love Mum.

😊

MUGGING

Congratulations to Miss Proctor who has been mugged by Miss Cahill. Miss Proctor was mugged for all her work across the school and for her positive attitude and relationships with all the children. Well done Miss Proctor and thank you!

Shop online and help raise FREE money for Abbeys!

We have signed Abbeys Primary School up to easyfundraising – a really simple way for our families to help raise money for school without spending anything extra.

We know that the school has lots of areas that need investment, from resources and furniture to improving our classrooms and outdoor spaces. We are therefore looking at as many free and easy ways of raising additional funds for Abbeys as possible.

This one is particularly easy – because you simply shop as normal!

How does it work?

easyfundraising works with more than 8,000 online retailers, including many shops and services that families already use.

When you want to shop online:

1. Sign up to easyfundraising and choose Abbeys Primary School as your cause.

2. Find the retailer you want to shop with through easyfundraising.

3. Click through to the retailer and shop as you normally would.

4. The retailer then makes a donation to Abbeys – at NO extra cost to you!

You still pay the same price for your shopping. You don't make a donation yourself – the retailer does.

There are thousands of participating retailers, including Amazon, Argos, John Lewis, M&S, Tesco, Currys, Dunelm, Etsy, Booking.com, Trainline and many more.

Imagine if lots of Abbeys families joined...

One family's shopping might only generate a small donation, but if lots of our parents, grandparents, friends and staff sign up, those small donations can really add up.

And it doesn't cost our families anything.

You can also download the easyfundraising app or use their Donation Reminder, which can remind you when you visit a participating retailer so that you don't forget to generate a donation for Abbeys.

Please help us if you can

We are trying to find lots of different ways to bring additional money into school so that we can continue to improve the environment and opportunities we provide for our children.

If you already shop online, please consider signing up. It takes just a few minutes and could make a real difference to Abbeys over time.

Sign up here: easyfundraising – Abbeys Primary School

Thank you, as always, for supporting our school and helping us to give our children the very best we can.

Interested in music lessons outside of school?

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
