We have had a fantastic first full week back in school and the children have been busy with swimming and starting their new topics.

You will have received your child's curriculum newsletters by now and that is your guide on their learning for this half-term. Our whole curriculum is on our school website! Please take a look!

The children have all settled back into school life really well. It is completely normal for them to feel tired and overwhelmed- particularly Year 1, who have a whole new curriculum to work with.

If you are worried about anything please come and talk to us- a problem shared is a problem halved!

A reminder of our expectations and home-school agreement

We have high expectations for pupil behaviour across school. At the same time, we have a wonderfully diverse range of children, including pupils with additional needs and medical conditions. At times, some children may find it difficult to regulate their emotions or behaviour in school, and we work closely with families to support them and get things right.

It is important that we don’t compare our children to one another, but instead recognise and understand the diverse community we are part of. We pride ourselves on meeting children where they are and supporting them according to their individual needs. Our staff are well-trained, care deeply about the children and look after them as we would our own.

We ask that parents and carers trust the professional decisions we make in school and, importantly, treat all members of staff with kindness and respect.

We have high expectations of our families just as we do of our pupils. Sadly, we do need to have a policy in place for situations where parents, carers or visitors do not behave appropriately towards other families or members of our school team. Our Abbeys Primary School Parent, Carer and Visitor Policy can be found on our school website and sets out our expectations clearly.

The children in Foundation stage have settled in extremely well. Well done to all the families for working with the team to transition the children into school smoothly. We encourage parents/ carers not to linger around the windows waving- to your children as this can unsettle them.

In Tintern and Turvey this week the children have been settling in and making lots of new friends including Frenchie the school dog!

They have been busy drawing self-portraits by looking at themselves in the mirror!

Whitby have enjoyed their first lesson of art. They have explored the work of Andy Goldsworthy and had a go at creating their own images using natural objects they have found outside!

Year 3/4 are learning about Ancient Egypt. They had an amazing hook day to introduce the children to the Egyptian era.

The children did 3 different activities. They learnt all about mummification, hieroglyphics and amulets.

This week in year 1/2, they started their new art project, looking at the artist Andy Goldsworthy and art in nature. Woburn class enjoyed collecting lots of natural objects to create their own masterpieces with. Here are just a few amazing examples!

As an introduction to their topic 'Great Greece', Belmont have enjoyed designing and moulding their ancient Greek theatre masks - a very messy, but satisfying task!

The children in 5/6 have also really enjoyed challenging themselves to use their star words and subordinating conjunctions as sentence openers when re-writing the narrative 'The True Story of the Three Little Pigs'.

I would like to give a big SHOUT-OUT to Nasya-Mira and Judenn!

After recently moving back to the UK from France and starting a new school, I am incredibly proud of how well they have adapted to such a big change. They have shown great confidence and resilience in settling into their new environment and beginning this new chapter.

Well done Nasya-Mira and Judenn – Daddy is very proud of you both!

Shout out to Parker for conquering his fear and anxiety around going swimming!

He went in Monday without any problems and now can't wait for Thursday's swimming lesson.

Jayden and I would like to give a shout-out to McKenzie, who has gone above and beyond with befriending Jayden. He looks forward to seeing McKenzie every day after school.

We have a very small, but amazing PTA at Abbeys. We also rely on volunteers for trips, visits and reading in school.

From September 2027, safeguarding guidance has changed slightly and to be able to be a a member of our volunteering group we need all volunteers to have a full DBS check.

Having a DBS check is easy, but the process is long. If you would like to help out in school and on trips etc we need you to complete some paperwork with Mrs Wright in the office. We need your support so please come forward.
