Welcome back everyone and welcome to our new families!

Hopefully in time you will feel like part of the furniture and will understand the Abbeys way!

I hope you have enjoyed an amazing Summer. I have spent some lovely time with my family and the weather was wonderful.

This week's newsletter is very brief- lots of reminders for the term ahead!

The start of the school year can be quite daunting for some... including teachers. At Abbeys, we have an open-door policy. We want to know if you have any concerns or worries. We can help and support in many ways, and we will always make ourselves available if needed.  

Every fortnight I will send out my Headteacher's newsletter full of information for you. The link for the newsletter is only shared with parents and carers. If you do not want photos of your child in the newsletter or on the website, please let us know by updating your permissions via the office team. 

This year our strategic focus is on maths, writing and continuing to develop our trauma-informed practice. Throughout the year, as a team, we will be working behind the scenes in these areas to improve outcomes for pupils. 

We will also continue our work with parents/ carers and our focus on curriculum enrichment. As always, we rely on your continued support via the PTA [Parent Teacher Association] or as School Governor. If you are interested in helping out, please get in touch!

Foundation have started the year with a fantastic topic! 'This is us' enables the children to share information about them, their family and their lives! 

KS1 are learning all about the environment, landscapes and habitats in their topic ' I am a survivor'.  

Years 3/4 have started learning about Ancient Egypt. They will be learning about mummification and the pyramids! 

Year 5/6 will be learning about 'Great Greece', They will also learn about Greek architecture and what life was like on Earth long ago. 

Homework

Homework is an important part of the learning process. It is consolidation of learning and supports understanding as children transfer knowledge between home and school. 

I appreciate homework can be difficult, particularly if you have a child with additional needs. However, all children need to complete homework, even just a small amount. Here is a guide we produced for you, explaining how you can help your child. 

Grab a paper copy from the office if needed!

A reminder... 

In line with DFE guidance, we do not give out sweets for children's birthdays. We will give the occasional treat at discos and fairs, but we cannot do this for birthdays. We are able to give out other items such as fruits, little books/ bubbles etc. 

Last year parents/ carers became really creative with the treats they provided for their child's birthdays. We really appreciate your support with this.

Marham, Missenden, Woburn, Westminster and Bradwell all swim on a Monday!

A huge SHOUT OUT to Mrs and Mr Brown! Baby Harrison was born on the 19/7/26 at 11.30pm. Mother and baby doing amazingly well! 

 

He may have left us but Charlie deserves a huge SHOUT-OUT! World Champion! You cannot get better than that. We are so proud of you Charlie and wish you the very best of luck in Secondary school.
